Conservatory roof replacement in Hastings and East Sussex

Turn a conservatory that’s too hot in summer and too cold in winter into a room you use all year. Choose a warm solid roof, a new glass roof or a polycarbonate roof.

Why replace your conservatory roof?

Many older conservatories have a roof that lets the room overheat on sunny days and lose its warmth as soon as the weather turns. Rain can be loud, the roof panels can discolour, and the room ends up shut off for half the year.

If the base, walls and frames are still in good condition, you may not need a whole new conservatory. Replacing just the roof can change how the room feels and how often you use it, and it’s usually far less disruptive than starting again.

Your three roof options

A warm, solid roof

A solid, insulated roof turns your conservatory into something that feels much more like part of the house. It’s:

  • warmer in winter, because the insulation holds on to the heat;
  • cooler in summer, because it blocks the direct sun overhead;
  • quieter in the rain than a glass or polycarbonate roof.

The trade-off is less light from above, so it’s worth thinking about how bright you want the room to be.

A new glass roof

If you love the light in your conservatory, a new glass roof keeps it. Modern double glazed roof units are a big step up from older panels, and glass lets in the most natural light of the three options. It suits conservatories that are used as garden rooms or for growing plants.

A polycarbonate roof

Polycarbonate sheets are lightweight and a budget-friendly way to replace a tired or damaged roof. They’re a practical choice where you want to refresh the conservatory without making bigger changes to how it looks or works.

Building Regulations

Replacing a glazed roof with a solid one can change how the conservatory is treated, and it may need Building Regulations approval. We’ll advise you on what applies to your conservatory before any work starts, and we’re happy to help with planning and building work questions as part of your free home visit.

Our survey comes first

Before recommending a roof, we look at the existing structure: the base, the frames and how the conservatory joins the house. That tells us which options are suitable and whether anything else needs attention. You’ll get honest advice, with no pressure to go further than you need.

We’ll also ask how you use the room now and how you’d like to use it. A conservatory you want as a year-round dining room or home office may suit a different roof from one you use mainly as a sunny garden room in spring and summer.

Questions about conservatory roofs

Can you replace the roof without replacing the whole conservatory?

Often, yes. If the base, walls and frames are sound, a new roof can be fitted to the existing conservatory. We’ll check the structure during your free survey and tell you honestly whether it’s suitable.

Which type of conservatory roof is warmest?

A solid, insulated roof generally keeps a conservatory warmest in winter and coolest in summer, and it’s quieter in the rain. A new glass roof keeps the most light. We’ll talk through the trade-offs with you.

Do I need permission to fit a solid roof?

Replacing a glazed roof with a solid one may need Building Regulations approval, depending on the work. We’ll advise you on what applies to your conservatory before any work starts.

How much does a new conservatory roof cost?

It depends on the size and shape of the conservatory and the type of roof you choose, so we quote each one individually. We’ll visit, survey and give you a free, no-obligation quote. Call 01424 239023 to arrange it.
