Orangeries in Hastings and Sussex

An orangery gives you the light of a conservatory with the solid, private feel of a proper extension. We design each one to blend with your home.

What is an orangery?

An orangery is a different take on the classic conservatory. Instead of being built mostly from glass, it’s built mainly from brick or masonry chosen to match your existing house, much like a traditional extension.

Tall, floor-to-ceiling windows and a lantern-style roof bring in the light. The result is a room that adds real depth to your home and looks as though it has always been there.

The best of both

With an orangery you get the bright, airy feel of a conservatory together with the privacy and insulation of an extension. That makes it a comfortable room to use all year round, not just in summer.

If your garden faces south, an orangery can also give you welcome relief from too much sun. The solid walls and roof give you shade, while the windows and lantern still let natural light flow in.

A room for the way you live

Orangeries are versatile, so the design starts with how you want to use the space. Popular choices include:

  • a kitchen diner or dining room;
  • a sitting room looking out over the garden;
  • a guest bedroom;
  • a home office or home gym.

Orangery or conservatory?

If you want the most glass and the most light for your space, a conservatory may suit you better. If you want a room that feels like part of the house, with more privacy and more solid walls, an orangery is usually the better fit. We’ll talk you through both when we visit, so you can compare them for your home.

Planning and building work

Because an orangery is closer to an extension, it’s natural to have questions about planning and building work. We’re happy to help with those, so you know what’s involved before you commit.

Your free quote

Every orangery we build is designed around the house it joins, so we price each one individually. We’ll visit your home anywhere in Hastings, St Leonards, Bexhill and across Sussex, carry out a free survey and give you a written, no-obligation quote, with no pressure.

Questions about orangeries

What’s the difference between an orangery and a conservatory?

A conservatory is mostly glass. An orangery is built mainly from brick or masonry to match your house, with large windows and a lantern roof, so it feels more like part of the home while still letting in plenty of light.

What can I use an orangery for?

Almost anything: a kitchen diner, dining room, sitting room, guest bedroom, home office or home gym. Because it’s insulated like an extension, you can use it all year round.

Do you help with planning and building work?

Yes. We’re happy to help with planning and building work questions when we visit, so you know what’s involved before you decide.

How much does an orangery cost?

Each orangery is designed around your home, so we price every project individually. Call 01424 239023 to arrange a free home visit, survey and no-obligation quote.
